Coastal Georgia Palms Febuary 2019

On the way to Florida, Me and my family drove through Georgia.  I had seen my first palm tree driving through Charlotte (A windmill palm near a lake) and saw some Sabal palmetto after crossing into South Carolina, Once we got into Colombia, Both Sabal Palmetto and Pindo Palms were everywhere and by the time we got to Yemassse to sleep at the rest stop I had already seen a Washingtonia palm too.   I used my brother as a hight reference for this Sabal at the Rest stop.

We got up around 5am to finish the Drive.  We crossed the Georgia border by sunrise and around that time I started seeing the native Saw Palmetto.  It was a little north of Brunswick when I started seeing the Native Sabal Palmettos. here are some Pictures of some of the wild ones.

 .
I started seeing canary Island date palms around this time, and after brunswick I saw a sparing amount of Queen palms.  I was surprised how well some looked after the Vortex of 2017/2018 that killed quite a few in the area.
We stopped to get gas in Kingsland and I walked around and found some different palms.

A lot of the Washingtonia looked semi dwarfed.

Dead queen palm trunks were also around from the vortex . quite a few lived too however

This one must have had a trunk rot issue after that winter.  Looks like it made it though

The Big surprise of the day was this Dwarf Date Palm,  I never have seen one this far north before and it was a good size too.

Also a nice couple of Canary island date palms in that area too.
